Ama Dablam Base Camp (4650 m)
The team arrived at Ama Dablam Base Camp at
1 pm this afternoon and settled into their tents. The setting of
Base Camp right underneath Mt Ama Dablam is superb. The weather
during the day was beautifully hot though it turned cold during the
evening. The camp cooks, Dawa and Jangbu, provided an excellent
lunch of pizza, potatoes, yoghurt and fresh fruit. During the
afternoon, the ropes were set up to practice "jumaring" - ascending a rope
with the help of a "jumar", a device which allows a one way rope feed and
which is used for climbing steep sections of "featureless" rock where very
few hand-holds are available. Tomorrow, the team will rest and
acclimatise before their day trip to Advanced Base Camp on Saturday. |
