Phakding (2652 m)

The team took the plane to Lukla, arriving safely.  Unfortunately, René's trekking bag did not arrive and he hopes it will be delivered in the next day or two.  There was a great deal of air traffic at Lukla, an airstrip notorious for its difficult take-offs and landings.  The team spent 3 hours walking in to Phakding in good weather conditions.  Along the way, René took note of the geology of the region and took photos which he will add to his MSc picture collection. The group spent the night in a comfortable lodge which even offered en-suite bathrooms!  On the dinner menu was a choice of pizza and undoubtedly, the region's most renowned dish, Dahl Bat.  Tomorrow, the group leaves for Namche Bazaar, a walk of 4 to 5 hours.  They will remain in Namche Bazaar for 2 nights in order to acclimatise.
