Namche Bazaar (3440m)
René and 3 of the AC team members left
Base Camp for Namche Bazaar this morning at about 9 am. It was a long,
hard trip down and they arrived at 4 pm feeling quite tired.
Tomorrow they have another hard slog down to Lukla but will be rewarded
with 2 nights at the Radisson Hotel before leaving on the 6th for the
Chitwan National Park where they hope to do some birding, spot a tiger or
two in the wild, see the rare Asian rhino (known as the Great One-horned
Rhinocerous), and enjoy an elephant safari.
News from the summit is that the AC team
of 3, with guide Gary Kuehn and Sherpas Lhakpa Dorjee and Ang Sona,
reached the top (6828 m) at 2 pm today. Congratulations! They had fine,
clear weather on the way up but a fair amount of wind once they reached
the summit. They will spend the night at Camp III before descending
tomorrow.
