Lukla (2866 m)
Yet another day in Lukla! René is feeling quite
despondent as he sees his visit to the Chitwan National Park becoming less
and less of a reality. The day was again cloudy and no planes arrived or
left the airstrip (with the exception of a very expensive chartered
helicopter which only the most affluent - or desperate - could afford).
The weather forecast for tomorrow, however, is better and the team members
are holding thumbs that they will get a seat on a plane out of the village
(which is by now very overcrowded indeed). René spent the day at the local
bakery drinking copious cups of coffee and working on his MSc thesis. He
has re-written and re-arranged many of the sections and has spent a good
deal of time doing graphical representations of the geology of the area.
The AC summiteers spent the day at Base Camp packing up and
preparing for their trip down the mountain tomorrow. Tonight they plan to
celebrate their success with perhaps a small glass of champagne or two!
Who knows, they might perhaps just meet up with their compatriots in Lukla
in a day or two's time!
